Supporting Decision-making for Forensic DNA Analysis in Crime Investigation using Visualization
نویسندگان
چکیده
One of the challenging issue that scientists are facing is to have useful and effective data visualizations specifically for forensic DNA analysis in crime investigation. Concept of data visualization can then be employed into Bayesian network in order to interpret complex linking of data into interactive graphs for ease of analysis and accurate decision-making. In forensic DNA analysis, using visualization can make the activity of interpreting data and searching for details become easier and faster. The complexity of information in this field requires a good way of representation to analyze DNA profiles in crime investigation. In this paper, we show an implementation of visualizing forensic DNA analysis for suspect and unknown DNA profiles using a web prototype.

Bayesian Inferential Reasoning Model for Crime Investigation
Forensic inferential reasoning is a “fact-finding” journey for crime investigation and evidence presentation. In complex legal practices involving various forms of evidence, conventional decision making processes based on human intuition and piece-to-piece evidence explanation often fail to reconstruct meaningful and convincing legal hypothesis. It is necessary to develop logical system for evi...

The need for proper and acceptable forensic process is necessary due to the proliferation and advancement of high digital technology in all aspect of our life. Also the desire and needs for optimizing time and cost of doing things push humans to deeply depend on digital data for decision making. The legal system has also been investing heavily on this area to develop a framework and technology ...

The human element plays a critical role in forensic science. It is not limited only to issues relating to forensic decision-making, such as bias, but also relates to most aspects of forensic work (some of which even take place before a crime is ever committed or long after the verification of the forensic conclusion). In this paper, I explicate many aspects of forensic work that involve the hum...

A model that is based on the knowledge of experienced investigators in the analysis of serial crime is suggested to bridge a gap between technology and methodology. Its purpose is to provide a solid methodology for the analysis of serial crimes that supports decision making in the deployment of resources, either by guiding proactive policing operations or helping the investigative process. Form...
